Some projects are time sensitive with clear-cut deadlines. Others, not so much. And more often than we’d like to admit it, projects with established timelines drag on long after they were scheduled for completion.
More often than not, the reason for project bottlenecks are on the client side. They may be slow to provide feedback, indecisive about changes, etc.
If you’re super busy, those delays may be welcomed. But you’ll likely pay for it later, when the slow-moving client suddenly decides they needed it done yesterday.
Project delays can also create a bottleneck on your end, forcing you to rearrange other work on your plate, and impacting your ability to schedule future projects. That can cause a pain in the pocketbook.
We can’t have that, can we?
Establishing a project schedule and deadlines prior to the start of your work will help both you and your client be accountable. Don’t be shy about taking the lead on this. Set up the schedule and stick to it. Be the one who drives the work forward by reminding and reinforcing the deadlines.
It may not be easy at first, but it gets easier. And in the end, the project gets done on time, and you get to move on down the road to your next gig.
Keep moving forward. You’ve got this. #MoveForwardMonday
